Tailored support for students who are disengaged or at risk of exclusion
We aim to empower secondary school students who are disengaged or at risk of exclusion by providing them with the tools they need to succeed. Our bespoke, intervention-focused programmes are designed to meet the unique needs of each student, fostering resilience, encouraging a positive attitude toward learning, and helping them build self-belief and confidence in reaching their full potential.
The RAILS Project was founded by Gina Johnson, a qualified Life Coach with over 25 years of experience working with young people in various settings, including Young Offenders Institutes, Children’s Homes, Family Support Services, Youth Work, and Secondary Education. Throughout her career, Gina has worked closely with hundreds of students, gaining a deep understanding of the challenges they face, particularly those who are disengaged and at risk of exclusion. Her proven success in helping students shift their mindsets and improve behaviours inspired her to create The RAILS Project, a programme dedicated to empowering students to overcome obstacles and achieve their full potential.
"Gina has excelled in fostering positive relationships with both learners and staff, providing insightful feedback that has been instrumental in driving behavioural improvements. Gina's ability to connect with students on a personal level has built trust and encouraged them to take ownership of their actions."
At The RAILS Project, we believe that student disengagement and negative behavior are often rooted in deeper personal challenges, such as low self-esteem, lack of direction, or external pressures. Our goal is to help students build confidence, uncover their potential, and create a pathway to success both in school and beyond.
We take a relational, personalised approach that focuses on understanding each student's unique challenges and strengths. Through flexible, engaging activities, reflective discussions, and ongoing 1:1 mentoring, we support students in building long-term motivation, resilience, and positive behaviour changes.
The RAILS Project team is made up of highly qualified and experienced facilitators who are passionate about supporting students' success and wellbeing. All of our team members are DBS checked, trained in safeguarding, and committed to creating a safe, supportive environment where students can thrive and reach their full potential.
The RAILS Project offers a range of tailored programs designed to support students in overcoming challenges and achieving their goals. Each program is carefully crafted to meet the unique needs of students, focusing on building confidence, self-awareness, and long-term success through engaging and practical activities.
The Core Intervention helps students explore the reasons behind their behaviours and uncover what motivates them. Through a four-phase approach, they’ll reflect on their values, evaluate their school experiences, examine external influences, and create a personal action plan. This process empowers students to build self-awareness, overcome challenges, and set a clear path for success.
As an extension to the Core Intervention, these customised sessions focus on tackling attendance issues and helping students reconnect with their education. We work closely with each student to identify the root causes of poor attendance, address barriers, and develop strategies to improve engagement. This process empowers students to take ownership of their learning, stay motivated, and make school feel more manageable.
As an extension to the Core Intervention, these workshops focus on boosting confidence, building resilience, and creating a positive mindset. Through engaging activities, students learn to tackle challenges and view setbacks as opportunities for growth. By developing self-worth and inner strength, these workshops empower students to take control of their progress and stay motivated, setting them up for success in school and beyond.
As an extension to the Core Intervention, these 1:1 mentoring sessions offer students ongoing, personalised support to tackle their unique challenges. With regular check-ins, they’ll have a space for accountability, continuous guidance, and someone to celebrate their progress while helping them stay motivated on their journey to success. This tailored approach ensures that students receive the individual attention they need to overcome obstacles, stay focused, and keep moving forward with confidence.
This workshop is designed to inspire Black students, especially those of Caribbean descent, by celebrating positive role models and tackling barriers like unconscious bias and racism. It addresses the disparities in educational progress between Black Caribbean students and other ethnic groups. Through engaging activities, students will build confidence, develop a strong sense of identity, and gain strategies to overcome challenges. By helping them aim high and stay motivated, we empower students to unlock their potential and succeed, despite any obstacles in their way.
At The Rails Project, we believe that collaboration with parents is essential to student success. The partnership begins with an information session during the Core Intervention, where parents can learn about the programme, share their perspectives, and ask any questions. We also send positive postcards home when warranted, celebrating the student's progress and achievements. This involvement helps create a stronger connection between home and school, supporting the student's development and growth.
We would be delighted to discuss how The RAILS Project can work within your school to support your students.
We look forward to partnering with you in raising aspirations, inspiring learning, and creating lasting success for your students.
